Who Should Get Basic First Aid and CPR Training

Emergency situations are scary, but they are part of life and something bad will eventually happen at one point. Knowing what to do in this case could save the life of a family member or co-worker one day.

The American Heart Association states that:

  • CPR certification can increase the chances of survival 2-3 times
  • Most of the cardiac arrests (more than 85%) take place at home, and unfortunately less than 8% of the people survive. Most victims appear healthy and do not have a history of heart problems. Cardiac arrests are the cause of most deaths worldwide, the same number as various types of cancers, car accidents, HIV and firearms COMBINED
  • In case of a cardiac arrest, 70% of Americans feel helpless and do not know how to perform CPR

Who Should Get Basic First Aid and CPR certification

If you are able to provide the right care, you can save the life of that person, but also reduce their recovery time and prevent them from having a long term disability.

Who Should Learn Basic First Aid?

The simple answer is ANYONE, including children and teenagers. But the groups of people below should especially learn CPR and basic first aid:

Parents

A child will inevitably get injured, whether he/she has a cut, a burn, is choking, drowning, suffocating, poisoned and more. So it’s essential to get training for each one of these dangerous and life-threatening situations. By having the right knowledge, you will be able to stay calm and confident and know exactly what to do. You will learn acronyms that will help you remember what steps to take and in what order, and you will also learn how to prioritize actions and identify serious injuries.

Children

A recent study has shown that if trained correctly, 86% of children of 9 years or older can administer CPR.  And even if a child doesn’t have enough strength to perform CPR, he/she can still learn other basic first aid steps that could one day be beneficial. Take a class together and invest in the safety of your family.

Elder Caregivers

Just as young children, old adults are also at risk of injury, not to mention heart arrest and other serious issues. So it is essential for a caregiver to be able to perform CPR and know other first-aid measures. Even a minor injury can become more serious if not treated accordingly, so anyone who takes care of an old person should know some basic methods of first aid.

People Having These Jobs

Not only healthcare providers and emergency responders need to know basic first aid and CPR training. People in various fields are also required to have this knowledge. This includes people that are constantly surrounded by others and are working in environments predisposed to injuries. Among them, we have lifeguards, flight attendants, police officers, teachers, construction workers, nursing home employees, daycare staff, childcare providers, personal trainers, electricians, firefighters, prison staff, outdoor recreation instructors and guides, security guards and more.

So if you are part of any of these categories of people, make sure to get first aid and CPR course as soon as possible. And even if you are not, it never hurts to have these skills as someday they might be lifesaving. Besides having the right knowledge, you also need the right tools, and that’s where our life-saving first aid kits come in very handy.
